Villa Torlonia
This Villa was built by Annibal Caro, a writer who in this place translated the Aeneid. It was then widened at the end of the 16th century and completely rearranged according to the wish of the Borghese Family at the beginning of the 1600. The architects involved in its rearrangement were: F. Ponzo, G. Fontana and C. Maderno. The latter completed the horizontal structure of the Teatro delle acque (fountains with choreographic jets of water) in 1621-1623, when the villa belonged to the Ludovisi. In 1841 the owner of the Villa was the Torlonia Family. At present its gardens are a public park, while the villa, destroyed by the bombardments, was completely transformed as well as its form and its use are concerned.
