The Church of San Pietro
This church was built on a previous church of the 12th century, which was demolished because it was too small to meet the cult's requirements of the town. This initial church was built on a chapel where, according to the legend, the Apostle Peter had preached the Gospel.

Its structure was determined by the particular shape of the place where it is built, at the centre of the ancient town. The architect commissioned to project the church was Nicolò Michetti, who followed the structure of the Zagarolo's previous monuments. The works began on the 30th June 1717.

Michetti abandoned the building yard (1718) as he was called by the Russia's Tsar Peter I the Great, and therefore the church's construction continued under the direction of the architects chosen by the Rospigliosi Family: Ludovico Rusconi Sassi e Gerolamo Caccia. The church is characterized by a baroque style and an elliptic plan. The elliptic dome has an high warning light, visible from very far.
